A NEW BAR WE DESIGNED IN
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES
Click to see more of the bar and cafe.
Mary is a new bar we designed at the Stile Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It sits on the ground floor of the United Artists building, which is still one of the most beautiful in all of LA.
And for those of you who don't know, we love designing hospitality concepts whether it's a restaurant, bar, or hotel. We've got a few projects in development, and we're excited to show you this one.
The United Artists building opened in 1927, named after the studio Charlie Chaplin co-founded with Mary Pickford. The theater premiered with her film, My Best Girl, and it's still one of LA's most gorgeous theaters to this day. She drove its iconic design, and many of the building's original elements are still there today.
For every single detail, we wanted to pay homage to her vision. Pink damask banquettes, heavy green velvet curtains and scalloped chairs nod to her era and complement the building's original black checkered tile.
The existing concrete columns are covered in mirrors to add dimension and depth to the space. A green paint so dark it looks black covers the wainscoting and trim. And plants cascade from the high ceiling and are scattered throughout to make the space feel more vivid and alive.
By day it's a cafe bursting with natural light. And at night the dim, moody lighting turns it into a cozy, romantic hideaway.
If you're working on a new hospitality concept, we'd love to hear from you and see if we might be a good fit to design your space.
